Solar panel: 1.2V x 550 mA : 0.500 Watts (TS0628)
Panels of this type produced the following performance:
Open circuit (No load) output: 1.2Volts, Vpmax 1.0 volts, Current (approx) 500mA, Power 0.5 watts. Size overall 77 mm x 55 mm.
Active cell area 73.0mm x 52mm =37.96 sq cm. Panel weight inclusive of leads is 12-14 grams. (10% lighter than previous panels)
Individual panel performance can be expected to vary slightly from these figure, with better results in more optimum conditions. This panel has many educational applications, ranging from modelling solar uses, pumping water, making solar powered vehicles and boats up to and including the model solar boat competitions conducted by Australian school communities and the AIMSCC (Australian International Model Solar Car Challenge).Rules and regulations may be obtained through the following URL http://www.modelsolaraustralia.org/?section=challenge2010
Suggestions for use:
1. To protect the leads from breaking away from the panel, through undue flexing by the user, it is suggested that you gently bend the wires across the back of the panel and secure them with waterproof tape. This ensures that the effect of bending, vibrations, tension or twisting are not concentrated at the soldering point of connection with the panel.
2. To link two or more panels together for greater power, use either of the following:
Series. Link black wire (-ve) on one panel to red (+ve) wire on the next, and so on. This increases the voltage with each extra cell, and thus the power available.
Parallel: Link all of the black wires to the one lead, and all of the red to another. The resultant power supply (to a motor, for instance) will be high in current flow and will thus be more powerful than one panel alone.
